Structured wiring provides the communications infrastructure in homes in a well organized, easy to understand, and thorough way to provide a general solution to your present and future needs. Rather than running a coax here, and a Cat5 there, and another coax somewhere else as you guess at the future needs, the structured approach is to consistently run a full bundle of wires to every significant room. The full structured bundle consists of two Cat5 and two squad-shielded RG-6 cables, and is home-run from the central enclosure unit to each room to prevent any signal loss you might have when daisy-chaining instead. With this wiring structure you make a future investment to increase the value of your home.

For some people Home Automation may be something as simple as remotely controlling lights. Others may think of it when they regard their security system.
